Some TEDx sign names seems to be more challenging than others to create, yet we have the solutions for all.
We are quite often approached by TEDx organizers that have either a very long sign name, a relatively small stage with limited room space, having a "g" or a "y" in the sign, or they have only a limited budget available.
So what do we do? How do we overcome these obsticles? Here Are Some Scenarios and Case Studies:
A Very Long Sign Name
In the event that the TEDx sign with all its extension white letters is very long, we can fabricate the TEDx as individual letters painted in red and the rest of the white letters as stacked. They are glued in 2-3 tiers onto a black painted free standing base backing with or without a leg, to add stability).
This fabrication method serves a few purposes:
It saves on the shipping cost, being able to ship in boxes rather than a wooden crate
It saves on room space
It saves on the totoal cost compared to having multiple individual letters in one row
Here are some example photos of this fabrication method
We can also just glue white narrow letters on a black painted base as in this photo. This option will save both on space and budget.
A Limited Stage Length Capacity
We recommend for all our customers to measure the length of the stage and update us, as this might dictate the maximum height of the letters we can fabricate.
In cases where the customer has a smaller stage, we can use the black backing method mentioned above, or we can stack The TEDx and the white letters in 2 tiers, using an acrylic divider.
The letters can also be placed on a stool base where TEDx at the front or the back (as in the TEDx UCSB and TEDx Emerald Glenbrook photos bellow).
Here is another option for saving on cost - Gluing smaller white letters on a black painted smaller base backing
A "g" and/or a "y" in the sign name
Some have a sign name with "g" and/or "y" in their name. If we make it all individual letters in one row then these "g" and "y" letters will be taller having that longer bottom leg to them.
Problem? Not a problem.
We fabricate the sign with a foam base where the leg of these leters are embedded into.
The base is typically painted black for aesthetical reason as well as for the white letter to be standing out.
A Limited Budget
For those with a very tight budget, we offer over the shelf low-grade painted sign.
This option includes just the red TEDx letters at a specific height of 22.5" tall x 3" deep, without the white letters
For low budget, another solution would be for us to create a more high-end painted, thicker TEDx , the red letters only without the white extension letters
For anyone else with "normal" sign length who do not have any stage limitations nor budget restrains, we can fabricate the TEDx signs to any size and any option as well as individual free standing letters in one row as in the few examples bellow:
Here are some Q's and A's about TEDx signs:
What if I want the Sign to Last for Multiple Events?
We can apply Epoxy coating on top of the letters. This material can be brushed or rolled on and will make the letters a bit stonger as well as smother and eastehically nicer. However, the epoxy is not "bullet proof" - It is still recommended to be extra careful transporting the sign onto the stage and into storage so the edges will not be cheaped and the letters will not be cracked, broken or damaged.
What if I want the "x" to be floating-like rather than on the ground?
That is not a problem, but will have a bit of extra cost due to additional material and labor. We fabricate it with the floating effect by connecting the "x" to the "D" at the back using a piece of clear acrylic. To save the customer on shipping cost, the acrylic can be placed in the box for the customer to attach it on site, so no need for a larger box. In other cases, we can ship the sign with the acrylic alrwady attached to the letters.
Are the Letters Heavy?
Not at all. The letters are made of Styrofoam, the white beaded type of foam used for packaging as well as for props and exhibits, which is mostly made of air. They are fairly light-weight with one person being able to carry them and move them around onto the stage and into storage.
What is The Recommended Size for the Sign?
While we can recommend the height and overall size of the sign, we cannot make the decisions for you. We recommend that you measure the length of your stage from side to side, as this might determine the maximum height that we can fabricate the letters for you.
Some customers prefer having all letters (TEDx in red and the extension white letters) all at the same height, while others prefer to have the TEDx tallerr than the white letters to stand out. This option will save on fabrication as well as on shipping costs.
How So We Ship Them?
Any letters that are up to 34" tall can ba shipped in regular boxes via UPS or FedEx. Larger signs required at over 34" tall will need to be placed in a wooden crate and be shipped via freight with LTL truck carrier. There is additional cost for the wooden crate depending on size.
Do You Ship Only Locally in California?
No, we ship anywhere in the U.S (in some cases we also shipped outside of the U.S).
The signs are shipped either in carboard boxes if size allow, or in a wooden crate if they are too big to fit in a box.
